Artificial intelligence is rapidly entering the automotive world, and not only on the margins. At the upcoming CES in January, Bosch, the world’s largest automotive supplier, is set to unveil a new AI platform designed to make vehicles more connected and responsive, relying on a combination of new technologies.
Namely, Bosch’s AI-powered cockpit is presented as a big change, with the goal of turning the car “from a simple means of transportation into an intelligent, self-learning partner that understands the driver’s routines, preferences and context.”
Redefining the driving experience
The platform, for example, includes a newly developed voice assistant that not only responds to commands, but can also predict what the driver might need. If you say “I’m cold” the car could automatically warm the seat and increase the ventilation temperature without further instructions. Bosch’s AI system is built on Nvidia’s Drive AGX Orin SoC, capable of delivering up to 200 terabytes of operations per second. This chip processes sensor data in real-time and supports advanced visual-language models, allowing AI to reason across multiple steps and engage in more natural, fluent conversations.
Microsoft Office on the go
Bosch also wants car owners to turn “unproductive idle time” in their vehicles into productive work time. To make this possible, it works with Microsoft and adds its Foundry platform, which is used to build, customize and manage AI applications and agents. The system even includes access to the Microsoft 365 package, integrated into the vehicle interface. In practice, this could mean that the driver can join a Microsoft Teams meeting with a simple voice command, while the car automatically engages adaptive cruise control to ease the driving burden.
