id Software said after the dismissal: “We are still there”

id Software’s development team addressed fans and said they still have enough employees to make the games and technology they’re known for.

After Microsoft laid off more than a hundred id Software employees, the studio finally announced its fate. In their address to the fans, they tried to be optimistic and said that they will continue to work on the games and technologies for which they are known.

“We still have the team building the games and technology we’re known for. The team is ours now.” roughly the same size as when we did 2016’s Doom. We have always had a studio where everyone is equal as a creator, and we will stick to that philosophy in the future.” – it says in the announcement.

They also confirmed that plans for the QuakeCon convention in the eighth month remain unchanged.

In the previous days, it was unclear whether id Software would continue to use the id Tech engine. First there were claims that almost all the employees responsible for the development and maintenance of id Tech were fired, so Microsoft denied this.

It’s currently unknown what’s next for id Software, but the options are really only two: Doom or Quake, given the announcement that Xbox will only focus on the most popular franchises in the future.
