Samsung turns your Galaxy phone into a digital house key

The company Samsung expands the capabilities of the Samsung Wallet application with a new function that allows using the Galaxy phone as a digital key to the house.

A new feature called Digital Home Key lets you unlock compatible smart locks with your Galaxy phone. Unlocking can be done by touching the phone to the lock via NFC technology or completely contactless thanks to UWB technology, which allows the door to open automatically when the user approaches.

Galaxy phone as a digital key for smart locks

In case of loss of the phone, the digital key can be remotely deactivated via the Samsung Find service. Data security is ensured through the Samsung Knox platform and a secure element inside the device that stores credentials.

The digital key is based on the Aliro 1.0 standard developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, the same organization behind the Matter standard. The goal of this standard is that smart locks and mobile devices use a single protocol, which would avoid compatibility problems between different manufacturers.

By introducing support for Aliro, Samsung is joining a wider ecosystem that could in the future enable universal door unlocking with a phone regardless of lock or device brand.

Samsung Wallet also gets plane tickets

Samsung also announced that American Airlines is the first US airline to offer direct integration of airline tickets into Samsung Wallet. Users can now add a boarding pass directly from the American Airlines app and track all flight information in one place.

Wallet will show updates about changes in gates, seats, terminals and other flight details via push notifications. It is also possible to connect the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag to the boarding pass to track the location of the luggage.

Travel information can be automatically synchronized with the Samsung Calendar application, while users of devices with One UI 8.0 or later will see details about upcoming trips and maps in the Now Brief function, writes Android Authority.
