An incredible scene on the highway: Instead of a car, an airplane entered the lane

Last Saturday, April 4, in the morning hours, a Rockwell Commander 114B aircraft from 1995 was forced to make an emergency landing on a highway in Lehigh County (the US state of Pennsylvania), which was recorded by a camera from one of the cars driving there. According to official reports, the pilot reported to flight control the inability to maintain altitude due to engine failure. Given that nearby airports were out of his reach, controllers suggested the highway as the best option for landing, which the pilot ultimately accepted.

The collected pilot landed on the road

Eyewitnesses who were on the road at that moment described the scene as an “Easter miracle”. Car footage shows the plane descending directly between the vehicles traveling in the eastbound lanes of the freeway – as if it were maneuvering between them, in a controlled and slow manner. Witnesses pointed out the extraordinary composure of the pilot who managed to keep the aircraft within the traffic lanes, with the wings of the aircraft reaching from the central fence almost to the edge of the lawn.

Despite the danger of the situation, the plane touched the ground without colliding with cars, the pilot and the passenger in the plane did not suffer any injuries, and no significant damage was recorded to the aircraft itself or the road infrastructure. The only “serious” consequence of this unusual event was the four-hour closure of that section of the highway, during the inspection and towing of the aircraft.
