The next expansion for the strategy game Crusader Kings 3 will be called By God Alone and will focus on managing the authorities of the Catholic Church.

Crusader Kings has always been a series where you could do all kinds of plots and shape history in different ways. However, one could never manage religion directly, i.e. play the role of church ruler. That will change with the upcoming expansion for Crusader Kings 3, called By God Alone.
In short, this expansion brings the option of a playable theocracy, where the clergy are in power. The player will thus have the opportunity for the first time in the series become the Pope and make papal decisions. We will appoint cardinals, build cathedrals, declare heresy, etc.
By God Alone will be an expansion focused on Christianity, and the game will start in the year 867. Just like in real history, in the course of the game, the Great Schism and the division of the Christian Church into Eastern and Western may occur. However, history is here to be changed, so that can be avoided in Crusader Kings 3.
The expansion will be paid for and will be available in the fall of 2026.
