Dynamic action will prevail in role-playing games during 2026, and in this genre we will find some of the most anticipated titles this year.

At first glance, 2026 should not be an attractive year for role-playing games. I mean, it’s not like we’re going to be playing a new Witcher, the next Elder Scrolls, or some new From Software game in the next 12 months. We don’t expect a new Fallout, the next Cyberpunk, a new Divinity or the third chapter of Final Fantasy 7 are not yet in sight. And yet, the offer of this year’s action RPGs is quite interesting. Some series that haven’t been around for a long time are coming back, some new names are appearing… and everything promises to be quite a fun time. Here’s what we’ll be role-playing in 2026:
Fable
We will write the same as last year, when we were equally hoping for the release of Fable. The most famous fantasy series with a touch of British folklore is back. The once famous Fable will get a new game directed by the developer Forza Horizon. We will again go to the magical world of Albion, and in the role of heroes we will fight against giants and a witch who wants to change the natural order of things. According to the materials presented so far, the game looks like a fairy tale and graphically attractive, but it is unusual when Peter Molyneux’s crazy promises are not attached to it. We hope for the best!
The Blood of Dawnwalker
| 2026. | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series |
We still have a long wait for The Witcher 4, but in the meantime, the vampire cousin of that series is arriving, from the former developers of The Witcher itself. Dawnwalker takes us to medieval Europe affected by the plague and an infestation of supernatural beings. We will take on the role of Coen, a guy whose family is kidnapped by vampires and turned into a so-called dawnwalker. During the day, we keep our human form, and at night we get vampire powers, which among other things bring walking on walls. The game should be specific in its structure because it will not have main and side quests, but a timer within which we will have to find a way to save our family before the end of 30 days and 30 nights.
Control: Resonant
| 2026. | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series |
While the original Control was a third-person shooter, Resonant is a sequel that focuses on close combat and brings elements of role-playing. The new game will also feature a new protagonist, Dylan Faden, who wakes up in a Manhattan full of mutant creatures. Dylan gets his hands on a changing weapon called Aberrant and has to fight for answers about what is happening to the world and whether it can ever return to normal. At first glance, Control Resonant is a little reminiscent of the former Prototype, but with a specific Remedy aesthetic. Graphically, this could be one of the most advanced games of the year.
Nioh 3
| 06. 02. 2026. | PC, PlayStation 5 |
You’ll see later in the list that most soulslike games have an II in their name. Not Nioh, which is already on its third game, but it is almost unfair to classify that series in the pool of soulslike titles. This is best demonstrated by the trio, which will give us the option to fight as a samurai or as a ninja, and we will be able to change these fighting styles at any time during the game. Unlike the previous two parts, the third Nioh will expand its map a little, and it seems to us that in the story segment it puts a little more emphasis on real figures from Japanese history.
Phantom Blade Zero
| 09. 09. 2026. | PC, PlayStation 5 |
Every year at least one Chinese game impresses us, and in 2026 it could be this one. Phantom Blade Zero promises us wuxia fantasy and horror from Chinese folk tales. But above all, it brings fight choreography that looks a bit unreal, both in terms of animations and in terms of its ambitions. In the main role will be the elite assassin Soul who is given 66 days left to live, which is not a lot of time, but it will have to be enough to save the world. Especially when a pretty girl nicely asks him to do it.
Lords of the Fallen II
| 2026. | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series |
This game opens the list of “II” soullike games coming this year. That is, she will not be the first among them, but somehow we have the highest expectations from her. Lords of the Fallen 2 picks up where 2023 left off, with improvements to cooperative gameplay and the removal of loading between the Axiom and Umbral worlds. The worlds themselves will have more diverse biomes this time, and we can expect greater diversity among character classes as well. Speaking of which, the female characters will be hotter and scantily clad than in the last game – if that’s important to you.
Mortal Shell II
| 2026. | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series |
In a very similar tone, Mortal Shell will continue, whose continuation we have been waiting for a little longer – since 2020. Mortal Shell 2 will once again take place in an open world. In them we will find more than 60 challenging dungeons where, in the role of Harbinger, we will look for so-called Shells and take specific skills from them. Unlike other soulslike titles, in Mortal Shell we won’t have to pay attention to stamina, but the fight will be reduced to breaking the enemy’s block in order to deliver a critical blow.
Code Vein II
| 29. 01. 2026. | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series |
After six years, the soulslike vampire-themed anime is getting its sequel. In Code Vein 2, we become a Revenant Hunter who, with the help of his girlfriend Lou, travels to the past to change the course of history and save the present from disaster. The game boasts a unique system in which we activate different skills by drawing the blood of the opponents themselves, as well as the possibility of calling assistants into battle. Granted, there won’t be any co-op play here, Revenant Hunter’s life is all about soloing.
Beast of Reincarnation
| 2026. | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series |
Ok, I admit I overused the term “soulslike”, but here’s another such game from a totally unexpected source. The Japanese studio Game Freak, known for the Pokemon games, is preparing an action title set in post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 4026. The playable character will be the samurai Emma, and she will be accompanied by a wolf called Koo. The couple will fight to save humanity, and it is stated that these fights will be “demanding and technical”. Atypical of Game Freak’s games, this one doesn’t look like a graphical dud.
The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin
| 28. 01. 2026. | PC, PlayStation 5 |
If you like anime series, you’ve probably heard of Seven Deadly Sins at least once. Maybe you’re a fan of that franchise or become one with the new game, which is an open-world action RPG. Seven Deadly Sins: Origin brings a completely original story with the voices of actors from the series, and the graphics will be almost like in the series. This game actually wants to compete with Genshin Impact as a colorful RPG that steals your time while you explore a fantasy world in the company of other players. And that’s why it will be free to play, hopefully not full of microtransactions.
Gothic 1 Remake
| spring 2026 | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series |
The once famous series Gothic was supposed to return in 2025, so we only got a demo version. But don’t worry – a full remake of the original 2001 game is still in the works, which will tell its own version of the story of the prisoners in the colony on the island of Khorinis. In the remake, that colony will be up to 30% larger than in the original, and we will also see an extended story with which the game could stretch to a duration of fifty hours. We only hope that the basic mechanics of the game, such as combat and character development, will accompany this increase in durability.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced
| spring 2026 | PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series |
At the moment, the remake of the pirated Assassin’s Creed is still shrouded in secrecy, but so much has been leaked that it is as if we are on a ship that was raided by Captain Edward Kennway himself. We know the Black Flag remake is coming. We don’t have any materials yet, but if the rumors are to be believed, the part in modern times has been removed, the inventory has been added, and we will also see some new missions and activities. And we won’t lie, although we’ve been through this Caribbean adventure several times, we can’t wait to sail those waters again.
