no problem favoring consoles at all

A former Rockstar Games developer explained why GTA 6 won’t be coming to PC right away. According to him, the reason is not favoring consoles, but the way in which large projects are developed and optimized.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently confirmed for November 19, when it arrives first on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not yet announced when the PC version will appear.

GTA 6 PC version is delayed because it is easier to develop the game first for limited console hardware

Former Rockstar producer John Riccio spoke about this topic in an interview with YouTube channel KiwiTalkz. He explained that in development it is often easier to start with hardware-limited consoles and then expand the game to PC.

In other words, developing for consoles first sets a clear framework. The team must ensure that the game runs smoothly and stably on the specified hardware.

However, once that goal is reached, the PC version can be upgraded. On computers, there is more room for stronger graphics settings, higher resolutions and more detailed effects.

Rikio states that “shrinking” a game for weaker hardware is much more difficult than later “expanding” it to a stronger platform. That is why it is more logical to solve the console version first, and then adapt the PC edition to a wider selection of configurations.

The PC version requires additional time and money

Rikio emphasizes that this is not about prejudice against PC gamers. According to his explanation, the decision is primarily a business one.

Each new release for an additional platform requires a lot of money, time and people. If the development team focuses resources on the PC porting of the game, those same resources cannot be used for other content or additional optimization at the same time.

Therefore, Rockstar has to judge when the PC version has a strong enough business case. Such an approach is not new for this company, as earlier GTA titles first arrived on consoles and only later on computers.

The date for PC is not yet known

There is no official release date for GTA 6 for PC as of now. It is only known that the console version will hit the market first.

However, the explanation from the former Rockstar developer shows that the delay of the PC version is not necessarily a sign of neglecting that platform. According to him, it is a consequence of the order of development, complex optimization and business calculation behind one of the biggest gaming projects today.
