Samsung is moving the cameras on the Galaxy S27 Ultra model

Samsung is preparing one of the biggest changes in the design of the future Galaxy S27 Ultra model in recent years, and the reason is not aesthetics but a completely new hardware architecture.

According to new information, the Samsung Galaxy Ultra could leave the current vertical arrangement of cameras and switch to a horizontal layout of the camera system and a module placed at the top of the back of the phone.

The reason for this change allegedly lies in the integration of built-in Qi2 magnets for MagSafe wireless charging and accessories without the need for special covers.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra changes the layout of the cameras due to the Qi2 system

Samsung currently uses a vertical camera arrangement right where the copper coils and magnetic ring needed for the Qi2 system should be. The horizontal arrangement frees up the central part of the case and enables the placement of a complete magnetic system for a new generation of accessories and charging.

Reports claim that Samsung has been trying to solve this problem ever since the development of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra model.

In addition to the design change, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could reportedly do without a dedicated 3x telephoto camera. Instead, Samsung would use a combination of a 200 MP main sensor and a 5x periscope camera, while the 3x zoom would be realized using the crop method using the huge resolution of the main sensor.

Such an approach could work very well in bright light, but users would probably notice lower quality in low light compared to a true optical 3x zoom.

There is also mention of a new generation of batteries with silicon-carbon technology, while Samsung is reportedly testing very large capacities significantly above today’s Galaxy models.

Additionally, the company could introduce a brand new Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro model that would be positioned between the Plus and Ultra versions. It would reportedly bring Ultra hardware in a slightly smaller case and without the S Pen for users who find the Ultra models too big, reports Gizchina.
