Tesla introduces foldable Supercharger stations and chargers, installation is half as fast and easy

Tesla further accelerates the expansion of its network of chargers by introducing a new generation of prefabricated Supercharger stations with collapsible construction, which significantly simplify transportation and installation.

The new solutions, called “Folding Unit”, are based on a metal platform with a hinge in the middle, on which eight charging points and a V4 energy cabinet are pre-mounted. This design makes it possible to transport two complete stations with one truck, which was not possible before.

The collapsible Supercharger changes the way of installation

In comparison, the previous generation of prefabricated stations could carry up to four chargers per unit, with a maximum of 12 spaces per truck. Now a significantly higher density is achieved, with about 33% more chargers per transport.

A big advantage is that all the cables are already connected at the factory, so the complete station is practically just installed on site with the help of a crane. Thanks to the collapsible construction, the layout can be adapted to the space on site, without additional construction interventions.

Tesla states that this approach reduces installation costs by about 20% and requires half the time needed to set up stations, which is a key factor in accelerating network expansion.

V4 brings more power and preparation for new EV models

The new stations use Tesla Supercharger V4 technology, which allows up to 500 kW per charger, while the central energy module can deliver a total of up to 1.2 megawatts of power.

This is a significant step forward compared to the V3 generation, which is limited to 250 kW and comes in response to the increasing demands of modern electric vehicles that support much faster charging.

Tesla is already working on further improvements of this system, and according to the company, the next versions of the foldable stations will arrive in the coming quarters. This approach clearly shows that the focus is no longer only on charging power, but also on the speed and efficiency of infrastructure construction, reports InsideEVs.
