The result itself is not a big surprise – after all, it is a remake of the best-selling game of the Assassin’s Creed series. It’s more of a surprise that Ubisoft revealed the number of copies sold because it’s something they haven’t done openly for an Assassin’s Creed game since the original Black Flag.
For previous games, they stated the total number of players (including those who accessed them through subscription), so they expressed sales in terms of the amount of revenue generated, and then they compared sales with previous games in the series – all in order not to reveal the specific number of copies sold.
So what changed? Maybe they are just very happy with the sales, and maybe this is a new practice now that Assassin’s Creed has been placed under the ownership of the new Ubisoft subsidiary – Vantage Studios, in which the Chinese company Tencent holds the majority of the ownership.
In any case, Black Flag Resynced had a good start, but immediately caused i controversy due to the offer of additional content. A section of players protested because the game has multiple cosmetic items and microtransaction packs that cost a total of 85 euros – more than the game itself. Ubisoft said that the standard edition of Black Flag Resynced is also the full edition of the game.
“Every mission, every island, the entire story, and the entire world are available in the standard edition of the game, nothing is denied to anyone. Additional packs are completely optional bonuses for players who want them, and are in no way a requirement for enjoying the game or completing it.” – it says in the explanation.
