The Volkswagen company presented the new electric SUV Volkswagen ID.Unyx 08, which was developed in just 24 months thanks to cooperation with the Chinese manufacturer Xpeng.
The ID.Unyx 08 represents an important step forward for Volkswagen, as it is the first model based on another company’s platform. In this case, it uses the Xpeng 800-volt architecture, which allows for significantly faster charging and greater efficiency.
Chinese technology accelerates the development of Volkswagen EV models
Development of the vehicle took less than two years, which is a significant acceleration compared to the previous four years required for new models, and even compared to the new industry target of three years.
The model was developed as part of the “In China, for China” strategy, and production takes place in the city of Hefei through the Volkswagen Anhui joint venture.
In addition to the advanced electric platform, the vehicle also brings a number of modern technologies, including L2 driver assistance systems, OTA updates and an integrated AI assistant.
The interior of the vehicle follows the modern trend of digitization. Two large screens of almost 15 inches with 2.4K resolution dominate, while the driver has a separate digital instrument panel. The classic physical keys have been reduced to a minimum.
The cabin is additionally equipped with a panoramic glass roof with dimming adjustment, a 20-speaker system and advanced seats with multiple levels of electric adjustment.
The ID.Unyx 08 comes in versions with one and two electric motors, with a maximum power of up to 496 HP. Energy is provided by LFP batteries from CATL with a capacity of 82 kWh and 95 kWh.
The most efficient version offers a range of up to about 730 kilometers according to the Chinese CLTC standard, which places it among the most competitive models in its class.
This model is just one of as many as 20 new electrified vehicles that Volkswagen plans to launch in China during 2026, which clearly shows how fast the development of the EV market is accelerating.
Cooperation with Chinese partners allows Volkswagen to respond to the pace of development and competition in the world’s largest electric vehicle market, reports AutoBlog.
