During a routine speed control, which was carried out by police officers in the German city of Euskirchen at the beginning of May, an unusual scene was recorded that attracted a lot of attention. The radar system recorded a vehicle traveling at a speed of 42 km/h on a section where the speed limit is 30 km/h. However, the offense itself remained in the background due to an unexpected passerby.
She burst into the frame at the right moment
Just as the offender was being photographed, an elderly woman using a wheeled walker passed in front of the vehicle. Due to the specific shooting angle, the police photo gave the impression that the pensioner had just reached the measured speed, which prompted the police to joke: “At first glance, it looked almost as if the lady had just set a new speed record while walking with a walker, or as if she wanted to personally compete against Odor Bolt“.
The local police published this photo on their official Facebook page, highlighting the complete calmness of the elderly lady who is equipped shopping bag on her walker, passed in front of the lens. They also note that the driver in the violation was lucky that a passer-by blocked his vehicle and registration at a crucial moment, so in the end he will not be able to be punished.
Despite the humorous tone of the photo itself, the Euskirchen police department used the post to send a serious warning to the public about the importance of obeying traffic laws. They especially emphasized that speed limits of 30 kilometers per hour, which are most often set near kindergartens, schools or residential areas, exist for a very clear and justified reason – and then even a minimal speed limit of just a few kilometers per hour can be decisive.
