The last Bugatti W16 Mistral left the workshop in Molsheim, which officially marked the end of the production of that open hyper sports car, and at the same time it represents the “swan song” of the legendary W16 engine. The last copy, in a two-tone combination of pearl colors, proudly bears the inscription “The last of its kind”. This delivery comes just days after Bugatti opened its new facility in Molsheim, “La Manufacture”, where the successor to the Tourbillon will soon be produced.
W16: from Veyron to Mistral
The road history of the W16 engine stretched through the Veyron and Chiron models, and ended with the open model W16 Mistral, which was first presented to the public in 2022 at Monterey Car Week. Before series production started in early 2025, this model set a historical record in November 2024. Official driver Andy Wallace it then reached a speed of 453.91 km/h on the Papenburg circuit, making the W16 Mistral the fastest open production car in the world.
The last produced W16 Mistral brings a series of details that connect the brand’s past and present. The interior of the car is decorated with plaques with the model’s dedication and silhouette, while the seats and cabin are upholstered in a special combination of magnolia colors and matte gray carbon fiber. The customer also wanted to pay tribute to the founder Ettore Bugattiwho started the company in Molsheim in 1909, so his signature is embroidered on the headrests, installed in an aluminum version in the door sills and placed on the inner engine cover.
The collaboration with the famous house of Lalique resulted in a crystal glass armrest plate called “Spirit of the Wind”, a reference to the historic collaboration between Ettore Bugatti and Renea Laliquea. Finally, in cooperation with the head of the Sur Mesure department, jachom straubom and partner Bugatti Riyadh, a sculpture of a falcon’s head was placed on the gear lever instead of the usual elephant, as a tribute to the Middle East, where the buyer of this historic, last example comes from.
