With the release of Android 17 Beta 3 version, Google finally corrected one of the most criticized changes from previous versions of the system and returned a simple Wi-Fi switch that works with one touch.
Ever since Android 12, Wi-Fi connection management has become unnecessarily complicated. Instead of turning Wi-Fi on or off with one touch, users had to go through an extra step, because the click on Quick Settings field opened a menu with networks.
Wi-Fi control again as simple as before
Such an approach turned everyday action into a two-step process, which caused constant criticism from users. Despite numerous objections, Google has only now decided to react.
With the Android 17 Beta 3 version, the functionality returns to the old way as Wi-Fi can be turned on or off again with one touch, which significantly speeds up everyday use.
The new implementation also brings additional flexibility. For larger 2×1 fields in Quick Settings menu, the left part serves to directly turn on or off the Wi-Fi connection, while the right part still opens a detailed menu with available networks. For smaller 1×1 fields, the behavior is even simpler, since one touch changes the state of the connection, while a longer press leads to complete settings.
This change clearly shows that Google is starting to listen more to user feedback, especially when it comes to basic system functions. Although it is a relatively small change, its impact on daily use is significant.
For now, the feature is only available in the beta version, but it is expected to arrive in the stable version of the Android 17 system, which should be presented by the third quarter of this year, reports Android Headlines.
