The lead designer of Red Dead Redemption has announced a new game that has nothing to do with Red Dead Redemption. Granted, it might emulate it a bit, as well as a bunch of other games.
Among the various announcements from last night’s Game Awards, we would like to draw your attention to one that was not even part of the main program, but is definitely refreshing. New studio Day 4 Night, founded by ex-Red Dead Redemption designer Christian Cantamessa, has unveiled its debut game Bradley the Badger.
This is an action adventure that goes into other genres as well. To put it more precisely: “Bradley is part love letter to video games and part satire of them.”
The main role is played by Bradley the badger, a former mascot of the platformer genre who wakes up in a world where nothing makes sense to him anymore. On the way back to his home, the badger saves the same world by passing through different regions inspired by other games: Badgerborne, The Last Badger, Cyberbadger, itd.
Similar to Astro Bot, each level has some special featuresthat is, skills directly related to the development of video games. The following powers are thus available:
- Scale – shrink or enlarge unfinished objects to open new paths, crush enemies and redesign the environment
- Transfer – take control of every unfinished object in the world (from toy robots to cars) to gain new abilities and movement capabilities
- Tessellate – Make walls temporarily climbable to reach secret routes and vantage points
- Explosive – turns harmless objects into bombs, hazards into opportunities, and enemies into debris
- Extrude – push or pull geometry from unfinished surfaces to create your own platforms, paths and cover
- Manipulator – grab, rotate and stack unfinished objects as if they were building blocks, solving problems your way
Bradley the Badger is in development for PC, with no anticipated release date.
