Canon dominates, and Sony remains without a real answer

The American platform LensRentals published the statistics of the most frequently rented photographic equipment in 2025, and the results clearly show that professional users still choose and trust Canon the most.

According to the share of the total revenue, Canon holds 26.51% of the market and takes the first place once again. Sony is right behind with 21.66%, while Nikon is third with a much more modest 5.56%. In practical professional use, Canon and Sony remain the main choice of users, as confirmed by the lists of the most popular models.

The closing year reveals the dominance of Canon devices

The most frequently rented camera on the LensRentals platform in 2025 was the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, appreciated for its universality and reliable operation. The second place was taken by the Sony FX3 camera, which once again confirms Sony’s strength in the field of recording and film production.

In a broader overview of the Top 20 list, Canon had eight models, including the DSLR camera Canon 5D Mark IV, which still enjoys the trust of users. Sony entered with nine devices, from the Alpha line to the FX series and even the RX100 VII compact camera.

One of the key reasons for Canon’s dominance is the wide and powerful range of lenses. Models like the Canon RF 24–70mm f/2.8L IS, RF 28–70mm f/2L, RF 70–200mm f/2.8L IS and EF 24–70mm f/2.8L II are among the most frequently rented items on the platform.

When looking at the overall lens statistics, it’s clear that professionals are looking for universal zoom lenses the most because of their adaptability to different scenes and tasks.
