Google Maps AI is getting a significant upgrade as Google introduces the ability to automatically generate photo descriptions using Gemini technology.
The new feature allows Gemini to automatically analyze photos and videos that users want to share, after which it suggests a description of the content. The user can then edit, supplement or remove the suggested text before publication. This option is currently available on iOS devices in the US, with English language support, while global expansion and arrival on Android is expected in the coming months.

blog.GoogleNew options for tracking contributions have also been introduced. Users can now see their points total directly in the “Contribute” tab, while Local Guide program levels are more clearly highlighted on profiles. The reward system has been further enhanced with new labels that identify the type of user, such as “expert fact-checker”, “top photographer” or “rising novice”.
Also, users with high ratings get specially marked profiles in gold color, which makes them more visible within the community.
With more than 500 million active users contributing content, Google continues to develop tools that make it easier to share information and keep data current on the platform, Google announced.
