Croatian Highways informed drivers that work is continuing on the installation of a series of portals over roads, necessary for the functioning of the new electronic toll collection system. These works are currently taking place on the A3 highway, and according to the plan on Thursday, January 29, it will be on the section between the junctions Kutina, Lipovljani and Novska.
Closing during the night
In order to carry out the works safely, the section of the highway between the junctions Kutina, Lipovljani and Novska (in both directions), including the Lipovljani toll booth, will be closed to all traffic. The closure will be in effect overnight from 10:00 p.m. on January 29 to 4:00 a.m. on January 30.
Detour routes during the works:
- Direction Lipovac: junction Kutina (A3) → D45 → Ž3124 → D47 → junction Novska (A3)
- Bregana direction: Novska intersection (A3) → D47 → Ž3124 → D45 → Kutina intersection (A3)
In addition to the A3, works are also taking place on the A4 (area of Međimurje County) and A11 (area of Zagreb County). After completion at these locations, the installation of portals will continue in parts A4 (area of Zagreb and Varaždin counties), A3 (area of Vukovar-Srijem County) and A5 (area of Brod-Posavina and Osijek-Baranja counties). During this year, it is planned to complete all works on 212 portals and related equipment, which is an integral part of the new system. On each section of the highway, one portal will be installed on the highway and one portal in the zone of the existing toll station.
Website launched
These days, HAC launched a new website, crolibertas.hr, where you can find all the information about the upcoming toll collection system. Since it is a completely new system with a completely different method of toll payment, we predict that this page will be very useful to all drivers in Croatia, as well as tourists, because – at least from the beginning – everyone will have to familiarize themselves with the way the Crolibertas system works.
It will be introduced on all highways in the Republic of Croatia, managed by Hrvatske Autoceste, Bina Istra and Autocesta Zagreb-Macelj, on a total of 1,338 kilometers of highways. It is based on the concept of driving without stopping, in the free flow of vehicles in multiple lanes (multi lane free flow – MLFF) with a combination of DSRC (dedicated short-range communication, frequency 5.8 GHz – ENC) and ALPR (automatic number plate recognition with cameras). Both modes allow users to flow freely and charge without stopping. The use of ENC will be mandatory for heavy vehicles (as in Austria or Slovenia), and users of light vehicles will have the option of choosing: ENC or license plate reading.
