MSI has quietly released four GeForce RTX 5060 V1 graphics cards on its global website, in GAMING, GAMING OC, VENTUS 2X and VENTUS 2X OC versions. The most important change compared to the standard RTX 5060 is not in the memory, consumption or number of CUDA cores, but in the GPU chip itself.
In the V1 version, instead of the GB206 chip, NVIDIA used the GB205, which is used in the full configuration for the RTX 5070. That chip in the complete configuration has 6144 CUDA cores and a 192-bit memory bus, but it is partially disabled for the RTX 5060 V1.
On the GB205 chip, NVIDIA deactivated part of the calculation units and a third of the memory controller, so the final specifications remain the same as the standard RTX 5060: 3840 CUDA cores and a 128-bit memory bus. In other words, the user does not get more active units, but he gets a physically bigger processor.
The RTX 5060 V1 uses a larger GB205 chip with the same specifications as the standard GB206 model
This is important for cooling. Since the GB205 has a larger surface area than the original GB206 chip, it means that the heat is emitted over a larger surface and the heating is more even. In practice, a larger chip can more easily transfer heat to the cooler, so this solution has a physical advantage over a smaller GPU of the same class, although the performance on paper remains the same.
MSIThe rest of the key specifications remain unchanged. The RTX 5060 V1 uses 8 GB of GDDR7 memory at a speed of 28 Gb/s, with a total memory throughput of 448 GB/s. The cards retain the PCIe 5.0 x8 interface, which positions them as a solution for newer platforms.
The differences between the four MSI models mainly come down to clocks, consumption and minor structural changes. GAMING OC V1 has a boost up to 2587 MHz, while the standard GAMING OC version is 2625 MHz. At the same time, consumption has been reduced from 155 W to 150 W.
GAMING V1 keeps the boost clock of 2497 MHz, but its consumption is also reduced to 150 W. In the VENTUS 2X and VENTUS 2X OC V1 models, the differences are even smaller, because the boost clocks and consumption of 145 W remain the same as in the standard versions.
However, the VENTUS 2X V1 models have a higher declared weight, which increases from 511 to 548 grams. This indicates that the PCB or cooling system has been changed somewhat, which is logical due to switching to a different GPU chip.
For now, MSI has not announced the prices of the new RTX 5060 V1 models, nor has it specified in which markets these cards will appear first.
