The start of Xbox’s initiative to bring games from old Xbox consoles to PC / Windows has been announced.
The next Xbox will essentially be a Windows PC, but fans probably won’t accept it as an Xbox console if it can’t play games from previous Xbox consoles. Therefore, Microsoft is working on solving this support, and today they announced the first step in this plan.
In the future it will games from the original Xbox console become playable on Windows 11and to begin with, four titles will receive support:
- BLIiNX: The Time Sweeper
- Fuzio Frenzy
- Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
- Conker: Live & Reloaded
Xbox games on PC will have 4x upscaling, improved anti-aliasing, vsync option and more advanced filtering. Achievements will also be supported.
Now, one thing is important to emphasize. Although these games from the old Xbox will work on PC, this does not mean that they will be playable from DVD. It will work exclusively as digital editions. The comforting news is that owners of digital editions of these games on Xbox consoles will get access to them on PC without any additional payment or repurchase. These titles will also be available on PC Game Pass.
For Xbox, this is just the beginning, and in the future we can expect support for more old Xbox games, and then titles from the Xbox 360 generation.
