Fewer and fewer developers want to develop games for Xbox, according to the latest survey

A survey conducted among 2,300 developers shows very little interest in developing games for Xbox consoles.

Yesterday, Microsoft reported that their sales of Xbox consoles at the end of 2025 were 32% weaker than at the end of 2024, thus completing two full years of declining revenue from the sale of Xbox hardware.

As Xbox has the most expensive consoles on the market, the cheapest subscription on PC and the fewest exclusive games, it is clear why the audience is gravitating elsewhere. And when the situation is like that, it is not surprising that i developers are losing interest in Xbox consoles.

In addition to the fact that some games are not coming to Xbox at the beginning, there have been cases of cancellations of Xbox versions of games that were already announced for that platform, e.g. Ex Voto.

The waning of interest in Xbox is also clearly visible in the results of the latest survey on the occasion of the Game Developers Convention (GDC). A survey of a sample of 2,300 developers determined how only 20% of them consider Xbox a platform of interest. For comparison, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 have a percentage of 40% of interested developers, while PC is at even 80%.

Although the Xbox will transform into a PC in the future so this won’t matter so much in the end, we still have devastating statistics for Microsoft. Namely, in the same survey, 40% of developers expressed interest in developing their games for Steam Deck, and only 7% of them for ROG Xbox Ally.
