Polestar, a brand of cars with electric performance, has released a new concept car that redefines sports roadsters for the electric age.
Named Polestar O2 2023, the concept is Polestar’s vision of open roof performance and an exciting driving experience – with all the benefits of electric mobility.

“Polestar O2 is a hero car for our brand,” commented Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar’s CEO. “It opens the door to our secret chamber of future potential. This is a piece of what we can design and construct with the talent and technology we have in the house. It looks amazing, and the fact that we can lower the roof and not hear the engine promises a sensation.”

The driving experience in the Polestar O2 is designed to be lively, easy and full of confidence. Predictability and playfulness are at the heart of an exciting, lively ride. Sturdy body control, high rigidity and intuitive dynamics are inherent advantages of the Polestar 5-adapted aluminum platform, developed internally by Polestar’s UK R&D team. The high quality and rigidity of the aluminum platform are aimed at increased dynamic response.

Clearly related to the Polestar Precept concept car, but with its special character, the look of the Polestar O2 shows how Polestar’s design vocabulary can be adapted to different body styles with a strong family resemblance. The low and wide, solid-body body, compact 2 + 2 cab design, minimal overhangs and long wheelbase show the classic proportions of a sports car, but with a clearly modern, electric feel.

“This car is a meeting point between technology and art, between precision and sculpture, with a determined but not aggressive attitude,” says designer Maximilian Missoni.
Aerodynamics are manipulated to maximize range thanks to covert design features such as integrated ducts that improve laminar airflow through the wheels and sides of the body, and taillights that act as air blades to reduce turbulence behind the car.

Polestar O2 also shows advances in sustainability and technology. The new thermoplastic mono-material is largely found in the interior. The term “mono-material” describes the use of one basic material for the production of various components.

At Polestar O2, recycled polyester is the only material used for all soft interior components: foam, glue, 3D braided fibers and non-woven laminate. This simplifies recycling and represents a significant step towards greater circularity, while reducing weight and waste.
In a world increasingly driven by social media, the Polestar O2 has an autonomous cinema drone integrated behind the rear seats. Developed in collaboration with the Aerofugia consumer electronics brand Hoco Flow, the concept drone can be applied while the car is moving, to capture the perfect driving sequence.
The drone works autonomously, automatically monitors the car at speeds up to 90 km / h, and the driver can choose between an atmospheric sequence – great for cruising the coast – or a sequence filled with action with a sportier expression. After shooting, the drone can return to the car autonomously. Videos can be edited and shared directly from the central 15-inch screen when the car is parked.
“We wanted to highlight the experience you can have with a car like the Polestar O2 in new and unusual ways,” continues Missoni. “The integration of the autonomous cinematic drone was something that enabled us to push the boundaries on the front of innovation. The key advantage of this innovative design is that you don’t have to stop and release the drone before shooting, but use it at high speed. “
Polestar O2 continues on the strong foundations laid by Polestar Precept as a vision of the company’s future design, technology and ambition for sustainability. Polestar plans to launch three new cars in the next three years, starting in 2022, each of which has the potential to gradually realize some of the ideas presented by these concept cars.
Release date and MSRP
There is no official statement about the release date of a new 2023 Polestar O2 EV as for the price of Polestar O2 we can only speculate the cost, but if we have to guess let say closer to $150,000 USD, since 2021 Polestar 1 is priced at $155,000 USD
