Night action at the “car meet”: 19 cars were removed from the road due to dangerous faults

On the night from Friday to Saturday, February 13 to 14, the police officers of the Zagreb Police Department conducted another targeted night operation to monitor the technical condition of vehicles. The activity was realized in cooperation with the employees of the technical inspection station, with a special focus on the drivers and vehicles of the so-called “car meet” scene, as was already the case on several occasions. The surveillance was concentrated in the shopping center areas in the western part of the city, where groups of fans of “excited” cars traditionally gather.

Dangerous technical defects

During the procedure, police officers checked a total of 90 passenger cars and their drivers. Of these, 25 cars were sent for an extraordinary technical inspection to determine in detail the condition of key vehicle components and compliance with regulations.

The results of the inspection at the technical inspection station indicated significant irregularities, which is why 19 cars were immediately excluded from traffic. A total of 30 violations from the Road Traffic Safety Act were determined. The largest share was dangerous technical defects, 19 of them in total, while six vehicles were found to have a technical defect that is categorized as major.

In addition to the technical details on the vehicles themselves, the police also recorded violations by the drivers themselves. Four cases of not using a seat belt and one violation of not carrying a driver’s license were recorded. Such figures confirm the need for systematic controls of specific locations where drivers of modified vehicles gather, say the Zagreb PU, and announce that similar actions will continue in the future.
