Nintendo has confirmed the new Nintendo Switch OLED model, which has a 7-inch screen and a wider adjustable stand.

Nintendo Switch OLED Specs

The statement notes that it includes 64 GB of internal memory, improved sound, and a built-in wired LAN port. In addition to HD support on the dock, there is no mention of performance improvements or support for 4K, and Nintendo’s technical specifications confirm that it reaches a maximum of 1080p in TV mode. It will come in a white and black finish with a white dock. All previous Joy-Con controllers will be compatible with the new unit.

Before the announcement, reports widely suggested that the device would have a 7-inch OLED screen and a faster graphics element from Nvidia, capable of 4K output.

Nintendo is working to revise the hardware for its most popular hardware, especially handheld systems like the Game Boy, DS, and 3DS families. The switch is something between a console and a handheld and has already introduced one hardware revision with the Switch Lite. Nintendo has previously claimed that it will not announce a revision of the Switch hardware this year. And of course, this announcement comes in the context of a constant shortage of semiconductors affecting many high-tech industries, including the production of game consoles. The president of Nintendo says that the company is no exception and that the shortage affected the supply of the Switch. This means that a redesigned OLED switch could be hard to find.

Even without a hardware revision, the current Switch models are selling very well. The system has sold almost 80 million units in both available models, which means that the now popular Nintendo 3DS has now won. And its software is not to be sought after either, as the popular independent game Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold a total of over 30 million units.
