The next generation of Radeon graphics cards based on the RDNA 5 architecture is again in focus, and the latest information indicates the company’s possible return to the real flagship segment. According to the Kepler_L2 insider, the GPU codenamed AT0 should be aimed at the consumer market, i.e. gamers, but with very modest availability.
According to the same source, if the AT0 project is not completely canceled, it is almost certain that AMD will still launch the card for end users, even if only on a symbolic scale. Such a scenario is reminiscent of the Radeon VII, a model that was technically extremely powerful, but in practice was produced and sold in very limited quantities.
Symbolic flagship and uncertain future of RDNA 5
The Radeon VII was once based on a 7 nm chip originally developed for HPC environments, which was later adapted for gaming use. A similar approach is now being linked to the AT0 GPU, which explains why there is already talk of problematic availability.
At the same time, there are also conflicting rumors that the development of the AT0 chip has been completely stopped. Considering that AMD has not yet officially presented any plans related to the RDNA 5 architecture, the final fate of this flagship model remains unclear.
If AT0 does see the light of day, a configuration with as many as 96 computing units (CU) is expected, which would represent AMD’s first real return to the absolute top of the gaming offer since the launch of the RX 7900 XTX at the end of 2022.
The broader picture of the market further complicates the situation. The current year is not considered “big” for the gaming GPU segment: the RTX 50 SUPER series has reportedly been moved from the originally planned date of the first half of 2026, and is not expected later in the year either. AMD will also not launch RDNA 5 this year, while there is even speculation about the possible cancellation of Intel’s high-end Arc B770 card.
All this indicates that the market of high-end gaming graphics cards will remain without real novelties for some time, even if AMD’s AT0 appears as a short-lived and symbolic return to the flagship class.
