Focusing on two 8GB models, gamers will have a hard time getting stronger GPUs

The global memory shortage is already starting to affect the prices of graphics cards in retail stores, and according to new information, Nvidia is preparing a significant change in the production strategy of the GeForce RTX 50 series. Although the demand for more powerful models is not abating, it is said that the production capacities of partner manufacturers will be redirected to two versions with 8 GB of memory, which could make it even more difficult to upgrade computers even for customers with a larger budget.

According to information reported by VideoCardz, NVIDIA is reducing shipments of graphics cards with more memory, including the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB and RTX 5070 Ti. In some countries, these models have already started to disappear from the market, while the even more powerful RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 are said to be practically in a state of chronic shortage, that is, they are almost impossible to buy.

Focus on 8 GB models, more expensive versions less and less

At the same time, Nvidia is reportedly planning to focus on the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti in versions with 8 GB of VRAM. The goal of this strategy is to reduce memory consumption in order to maintain the continuity of deliveries and cover the needs of the entry-level and mid-range segment of the PC market.

However, such a move is not met with enthusiasm among more demanding users. Numerous technical portals have already warned that 8 GB of VRAM is becoming a limiting factor for modern and future games.

Although such a configuration is still usable in 1080p resolution, it is expected that new generation titles, such as GTA 6, as well as playing in 1440p or 4K resolution, will significantly increase the requirements and additionally burden graphics cards with a smaller amount of memory. By the way, this strategy will further decrease the market of monitors with modern features and high resolution.
