Real gold, humidors and guns: What are rich buyers looking for in their hypercars?

American hypercar manufacturer Hennessey is known for building some of the most exclusive vehicles in the world, where the concept of personalization for their customers goes beyond the usual choice of interior colors and materials. Nathan Malinickdesign director at Hennessey, at the Goodwood festival spoke about the work of the Maverick department, which specializes in the creation of unique examples, and at the same time revealed to the Motor1 portal the most unusual requests they encountered.

Unusual customer wishes

Among the most demanding projects was the creation of a Venom F5 model for a customer in Mexico who required the installation of real gold. Instead of gilding or gold leaf, the client insisted that the metal pieces be made of pure gold, so the grilles on the engine cover are made of this precious metal. Malinick pointed out that the processing was extremely complicated and that the company will no longer accept such requests because pure gold is extremely soft and sensitive.

In addition to the golden elements, the Hennessey design team adapted the vehicles to the owners’ specific hobbies. For the basketball legend Michaela Jordana In 2023, a special Venom F5 model was made with a built-in cigar humidifier (humidorom) in the glove compartment. Although Jordan didn’t specifically ask for it, the designers wanted to go a step further and create a unique detail inside the car.

Also, drawing on its Texas roots, the company customized one vehicle in 2024 by installing a custom holster for a Colt 1911 pistol that fits the cabin exactly to the millimeter. In addition, customers are offered the option of making a key in the shape of a gun. For vehicles whose price exceeds two million dollars, it is really not surprising that Hennessey, through its Maverick division, enables clients to realize even the most unusual visions.
