After nearly 210,000 units sold, Dacia announces the new generation of the Spring electric model

Dacia has revealed the first details about the second generation of its Spring model. At one time, the best-selling electric car in Europe is entering a new phase. There were indications that the new model could bear the name ‘Evader’, but it was decided to leave the already known name, even though it is a quite different product.

Since its launch in 2021, Spring has won over 210,000 customers across Europe. It is a simple and affordable member of electric mobility. Based on this philosophy, Dacia is building a new chapter. The biggest change in the new Spring is not about design or engine power, but about geopolitics and economics.

Namely, the current Spring was produced in China, on a platform originally developed for the Indian Renault Kwid with an internal combustion engine. This fact was not an obstacle until recently, but since the European Union introduced tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China, the business model based on imports has ceased to be viable.

Therefore, the new generation solves this problem at the root. It will be produced in Europe, very close to us, in neighboring Slovenia, more precisely in Novi Mesto, where the new generation Renault Twingo comes from. Both models are based on the AmpR platform, previously known as the CMF-B EV, which is already in use with the Renault 4 E-Tech. How similar these two models will be can be seen from the name of the development project – Springo (Spring and Twingo).

Dacia has always based its identity on one promise – the best value for the money invested – and the new generation of Spring does not renounce this philosophy. The goal is a price under 18,000 euros in Europe. Although the development, like the Twinga, was done in cooperation with the Geely group, European production brings a price advantage to this model compared to Chinese products.

True to Dacia’s spirit, the new Spring retains the most important things: 100% electric drive, four real seats and a real trunk. The universal and instantly recognizable name Spring evokes spring – a symbol of renewal and positive energy. With the new Spring, Dacia continues to pursue a clear ambition: to pave the way for electric vehicles available to everyone.

There are also speculations about some technical data, so it is mentioned that an electric motor with a power of around 81 hp and a torque of 175 Nm should be responsible for starting. It should be powered by a 27.5 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which should be sufficient for a range of approximately 240 kilometers. Of course, we will still have to wait for official data, at least until autumn when we expect new concrete information.
