Mercedes-Benz presented the new generation GLB model, only in electric version

From Stuttgart, a new model of the mid-segment city SUV arrives, with a “boxy” design that maximizes the space in the cabin, but retains a recognizable exterior, somewhat playful but also ready for slightly bigger challenges – in short, the Mercedes-Benz GLB is presented, the model with which that brand replaces the EQB model. As such, the new GLB will come with all-electric powertrains (with the tag “with EQ Technology” instead of EQ in the model name itself), will be available in five- or seven-seat cabin configurations, and will feature a heavy emphasis on modern technology, giving off an impression of luxury.

The model has also “grown” somewhat compared to the EQB, by about 5 cm in length and 2.5 cm in height, with a 6 cm longer wheelbase – the designer’s focus was therefore on the spaciousness of the cabin. On the outside, however, the design language of current Mercedes SUVs is followed, but the side line, some note, is somewhat similar to the Smart, while the most pronounced change is visible from the rear – where a somewhat unusual LED strip over the trunk lid stands out, along with a light signature with a series of three-pointed stars.

Complete electrification

When it comes to powertrains, the new model will arrive on the market in GLB 250+ with EQ Technology and GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology, with deliveries scheduled for spring 2026. At the same time, the basic model already offers 631 km of range according to WLTP, the most in its class, while the stronger model stands out with a powertrain of 260 kW (almost 350 hp). Both models come with batteries with a capacity of 85 kWh and an 800-volt architecture, which allows adding 260 kilometers of range in just ten minutes spent on a fast charger.

The cheaper variant offers 268 hp from a rear-mounted electric motor, acceleration to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds. With the more expensive and more powerful model, the range drops slightly to 615 km, but the acceleration is shortened to 5.5 seconds. In the near future, the aforementioned two models will receive “brothers” who will be placed at the bottom and top of the range, it was announced.

Comfort and technology

The new Mercedes-Benz GLB brings interior flexibility, offering a choice between a five- or seven-seat version. For additional adaptability, in cases such as transporting cargo or furniture, the bench in the second row is longitudinally adjustable. Compared to its predecessor, the new electric GLB also offers more headroom in the first two rows, which is helped by the “flat” roof line. Passengers in the rear of the vehicle will have increased legroom, as well as extended thigh support, all with the aim of greater comfort.

As for driving characteristics, the suspension with adaptive damping, which comes standard in combination with 20-inch wheels, ensures a comfortable or sporty ride. Drivers can use the Dynamic Select switch to change the damping characteristics, choosing between a comfortable mode (Comfort) or a firmer, sporty suspension (Sport).

The new GLB is equipped with a comprehensive package of driver assistance systems, including Distronic distance control as standard in Europe. Mercedes-Benz now unites all assistance systems under the name MB.DRIVE. The hardware for the European market includes eight cameras, five radar sensors, 12 ultrasonic sensors and a high-performance water-cooled computer, all ready for future functions and regular updates via the Internet. The vehicle runs entirely on its own Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).

The interior design is designed around several key elements, such as the optional MBUX Superscreen with three large screens. Behind its large glass surface are a 10.25-inch screen for the driver, a 14-inch central screen and a 14-inch screen for the passenger. The ergonomically designed steering wheel brings back physical controls (according to customer requests), including a limiter and Distronic switch and a dial to control the volume of the audio system. The central console, which is positioned high and has a sporty look, contains an additional storage compartment, completing the modern impression of the cabin, while under the front cover you can find a “frunk” with a capacity of even 127 liters.

The Mercedes-Benz GLB 250+ with EQ Technology can already be ordered in Germany at a starting price of 59,048 euros, while the more powerful GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology starts at 62,178 euros.
