The Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X are officially going down in history, as Tesla closed the possibility of new orders and left customers with only the vehicles already in stock.
This decision marks the end of models that practically defined the modern era of electric cars. The Model S, introduced in 2012, set standards in range, performance and technology, while the Model X from 2015 brought a distinctive design with “Falcon” doors and a strong focus on comfort and practicality.

The decline in popularity of these models began with the arrival of the Tesla Model 3 in 2017, which offered a more affordable alternative, and further accelerated with the launch of the Tesla Model Y, which became the company’s best-selling model.
The numbers clearly show the shift, while the Model 3 and Model Y combined reached deliveries of about 1.6 million vehicles per year, all other models, including the S and X, fell to only about 50,000 units.
CEO Elon Musk confirmed that the company is shifting its focus to autonomous systems and robotics, which is the key reason for shutting down these models.
