The Bugatti Veyron FKP Hommage celebrates its creator with as much as 1,600 hp

The Bugatti Veyron FKP Hommage is a unique car created to combine nostalgia, technological superiority and an almost insane level of attention to detail. This car is the second vehicle to emerge from Bugatti’s “Solitaire” program, and it exists to pay tribute Ferdinand Karlu Piëchuto the man whose vision and determination created the original Veyron.

When it appeared, the Veyron redefined the term performance with its four-digit power output and top speed of 407 km/h. However, FKP Hommage is 50 percent more powerful. It uses the most powerful version of the old W16 engine ever put into a road car, developing 1,578bhp, a huge jump over the original Veyron’s 987bhp.

As reported by Carscoops, it is the last and strongest road legal performance of the now retired quad-turbo powertrain, as used in Chiron-based models such as the Mistral and Super Sport 300+. Engineers also fitted an improved cooling system and strengthened transmission to handle the massive torque.

Redesigned, not repeated

But this is much more than just switching to a more powerful engine. Visually, Hommage looks familiar, but no part is simply copied. The horseshoe-shaped front grille is now wider, fully three-dimensional and made from a single piece of aluminum, while larger air intakes discreetly feed the air-hungry engine.

The red and black color of the body is a direct tribute to the Veyron concept from 2003, but the modern coloring technology gives a special effect. The red paint is applied over a silver base for added depth, while the black is actually exposed carbon coated with a tinted clear coat. Larger wheels and modern Michelin tires complete this visual revival.

Fabric instead of leather

As for the interior, the steering wheel and custom aluminum center console are machined from a single block of metal. Instead of covering everything in leather, Bugatti introduced special woven materials developed in Paris, giving the cabin a warmer and more refined feel.

And there is a clock, and not just any clock. A 41-millimeter Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon is installed in the dashboard, which is mechanically powered by the car’s own energy. And don’t look for digital screens infotainment systems that will quickly become obsolete, because you simply won’t find them here.
