The electric Ford Mustang Mach-E is a new car of the New York police

New York is focusing on electrifying the fleet of police cars. More than 180 brand new Mustangs Mach-E will soon appear on the city streets. All of them will serve in state institutions, including police stations.

Electric police cars are not just a European invention. New York took a similar path, buying almost 200 electric Mustangs Mach-E for its services. That is a large number, although it is still a drop in the ocean of over 30,000 cars used by the New York authorities.

The Mustang will go to many departments, including environmental protection, medical services, park and recreation services, police and sheriffs. The city opted for a strong GT specification with two electric motors with a total power of 487 hp and a promised range of up to 500 km with a single charge. In total, the entire investment will cost more than 11.5 million dollars.

This is the first big step towards the gradual replacement of dilapidated police cars with electrical equivalents.

“Law enforcement EV use is a powerful step towards reducing climate-changing greenhouse gases, lowering the risk of respiratory illnesses, reducing noise, and ending a long reliance on fossil fuels. Protecting people and the environment at the same time are important goals for the future of public safety.” said New York Sheriff Joseph Fucito.
