If you’ve ever driven through Zagreb during the working day, you’ve surely come across a very widespread phenomenon – delivery vehicles parked in the middle of the road “just for a minute”, usually on the road itself or in the middle of the road, across two lanes. Such vehicles, usually with delivery signs and four blinkers on, other drivers then have to bypass by moving to the bicycle path, stop lane, side parking spaces or tram line, depending on the traffic situation, and it is inevitable that there will then be a crowd and slow down the flow of traffic in the wider area.
Short-term, but still illegal
This phenomenon (finally) came to the attention of the police, who this Monday and Tuesday in the area of the City of Zagreb carried out a preventive and repressive action to monitor delivery vehicles. Police officers, despite the fact that the traffic police of the local self-government unit have the authority to sanction such violations and act on identical violations, conducted targeted surveillance of short-term illegal parking of delivery vehicles on the roads of the inner city area.
The surveillance was focused on vehicles that, by stopping and parking in unauthorized places, obstruct the normal flow of traffic and endanger the safety of other road users. During the implementation of the action, 63 violations of illegal parking were determined, especially in places where stopping and parking are prohibited, as well as at distances smaller than prescribed in relation to intersections, pedestrian crossings and public transport.

In the coming time, police officers will continue to carry out these and similar inspections with the aim of increasing the safety and flow of road traffic, announced the Zagreb Police Department. In their announcement, they appeal to all drivers, especially in the case of delivery vehicles, to respect traffic regulations and not park in a way that obstructs the traffic of other vehicles and endangers the safety of pedestrians.
