The fourth generation Formula E car was officially presented

At the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, Formula E and the FIA officially unveiled the fourth-generation electric car, marking the beginning of a new era of electric motorsport. The on-track demonstration was held in front of representatives from all teams and manufacturers, including Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan, Stellantis, Mahindra and Lola Cars. The new car will be the basis of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship from the 2026/27 season, and its performance significantly surpasses all previous generations of electric racing cars.

Revolutionary power and speed

GEN4 brings, for an electric car, impressive technical specifications. These include a top speed of more than 335 km/h and acceleration to 100 km/h in approximately 1.8 seconds. Compared to its predecessor, the GEN3 Evo, the new car reaches 200 km/h in 4.4 seconds, an improvement of 1.5 seconds. The introduction of permanent four-wheel drive was highlighted as very significant, making the GEN4 the only single-seater with such a system. The new cars will develop a peak power of 600 kW in “Attack Mode”, which is an increase of as much as 71% compared to the base power of the current generation of cars.

In addition to raw power, the GEN4 also brings significant improvements in lap times. It is estimated that in qualifying mode it will be an average of 10 seconds faster than the third generation, while on street tracks the laps will be at least five seconds faster. During the demonstration on the track, the new car successfully overtook its predecessors from generations GEN1, GEN2 and GEN3, which clearly demonstrated the technological progress achieved in the twelve seasons of this championship.

Sustainability and excitement

Along with speed, the sustainability of the electric racing series remains a fundamental pillar of development. The GEN4 is the world’s first 100% recyclable racing car, with at least 20% recycled materials used in key components. The tires are made from 65% natural and recycled materials, including 30% certified natural rubber. The battery was designed without the use of rare earth minerals, which further confirms the commitment of the series to environmental standards.

Safety and ergonomics have also been improved in the new generation. GEN4 introduces a wider cockpit for easier hand movement and power steering. The technological development of the 600 kW battery charging system and high-efficiency motors will be directly applicable to the future technology of on-road electric vehicles. In conclusion, the cars of the GEN4 series promise spectators even closer racing and a bigger spectacle on the track from next season.
