The old Unreal Tournament 2004 is now available for free with Epic’s blessing

The Unreal Tournament fan community has updated the old UT2004, which you can now play for free.

At a time when live service shooters are dying every month, it’s unusual to see a shooter that was hot and on fire more than two decades ago come back from the dead. Ladies and gentlemen – he’s back Unreal Tournament 2004.

Okay, comeback is a bit of an overstatement in this case, but the game won first update in over 20 years and is now free to play.

Unfortunately, it is not available on standard launchers, but installation should be simple – just download it from this page. A new version of Unreal Tournament 2004 is coming with a number of fixes and support for modern systems. This is just the beginning, as further updates are planned.

A fan group called OldUnreal is responsible for the revival of UT 2004, and it’s a good thing the game’s publisher won’t step in and spoil the fun. Epic Games may have given up on Unreal Tournament and fully devoted themselves to Fortnite, but at least they made the games from that series free to download and play, and thus gave their blessing for such revivals of old classics.
