The police in Zagreb permanently confiscated a 19-year-old recidivist’s BMW

During the regular traffic control in Ulica Grada Vukovara in Zagreb’s Trnje, last Saturday, April 4, around one o’clock in the morning, police officers stopped a BMW car with Zagreb registration plates. The vehicle was driven by a 19-year-old man who was subjected to police surveillance.

Recidivist without license

After checking the documentation and identity, it was established that the young man was driving a vehicle before acquiring the right to drive independently, that is, without passing a driving test of any category. After further investigation, the police established that he was a recidivist who was previously known for committing the most serious traffic violations.

Due to the established violations, the driver was arrested and taken to the competent misdemeanor court. Based on the Road Traffic Safety Act, the police temporarily impounded the car until a final verdict was passed and proposed to the court a fine of 2,500 euros in addition to the measure of permanent confiscation of the vehicle.

The competent court issued a verdict in which the 19-year-old was found guilty. Although the police proposed a higher amount, the court’s decision resulted in a fine of 1,500 euros, but the key part of the verdict refers to the property with which the offense was committed – by the court’s decision, the BMW car that the young man was driving at the time of the offense was confiscated permanently and without compensation in favor of the Republic of Croatia.
