The zombie TV drama Surrounded by the Dead should end in 2022 with an extended season of 24 episodes, the American TV network AMC announced.
The series, which started in 2010 and enters the 11th season, is not disappearing completely.
The two stars of the show, Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride, who play Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier, will play the same characters in the new series.
Screenwriter and producer Scott Gimple say:
“What is clear is that this show talked about life, and was made by a passionate cast of screenwriters, producers, and crews, who revived the vision that Robert Kirkman presented in a brilliant comic book – with the support of the best fans in the world.
“This will be the grand finale. And new premieres will follow. Evolution is ahead of us. Surrounded by the dead alive.”
The post-apocalyptic horror series has already spawned other achievements with the same franchise, such as Fear The Walking Dead and Talking Dead, in which guests also participate and are filmed with the audience in the studio.
Another edition of The Walking Dead: World Beyond will be released next month, while an anthology series entitled Tales of the Walking Dead is being prepared.
The series has repeatedly broken rating records in the United States with the first seasons.
British actor Andrew Lincoln plays former police officer Rick Grimes unfortunately Lincoln left during the ninth season.
Samantha Morton plays the main villain Alpha in the series.

The Walking Dead series on AMC, premiered on August 22, 2021, and will have 24 episodes.

The new characters confirmed to appear in Season 11 are:
- Mercer, a leader in the Commonwealth Army (and, in the comics, a love interest for Princess)
- Pamela Milton, the Governor of the Commonwealth
- Lance Hornsby, who was a bookkeeper for the Commonwealth in the comics
- Stephanie, who was the mysterious voice on the radio speaking to Eugene
- Deaver, a mystery character who fans believe may actually be Sebastian Milton
- Pope, a mysterious leader of the Reapers
- Agatha, a member of the Wardens
