The BBC has declared the French horror thriller TITANE or TITANIUM the most shocking movie of 2021.
Director Julia Ducournau won the Palme d’Or for this film at the 74th Cannes Film Festival, making her only the second woman in the festival’s history to receive this prestigious award.
The title of the film is the French word for titanium, which is the central motif of the film, and its plot follows the girl Alexia, who survived a serious car accident in her youth, after which a titanium plate was installed in her head.
After the accident, Alexija does not have the usual fear of cars, but on the contrary, she feels an unusual attraction towards them.
This specific trait will eventually turn into a romantic attachment, which will lead her to a sexual act with a car.
After this, as shown in the film, she will get pregnant, and the child will be a hybrid species between a car and a human being.
BBC critic Nicholas Barber called it “a nightmarish but comical mix of sex, violence, creepy lighting and very loud music”.
“TITANE” movie currently has an impressive 95 percent rating on the “Rotten Tomatoes” page and has received praise from numerous critics as well as from IMDB.
