After the company Micron announced that in 2026 it will shut down its brand of Crucial memory and SSDs for retail, now there are rumors that another significant cut is coming.
Supposedly a company Samsung stops producing SATA type SSD devicesa. It is not official yet, but several different sources state that it could happen as early as the beginning of 2026.
Although Samsung will continue to manufacture and sell NVMe SSDs, it is predicted that this could have negative impact on prices data storage devices, i.e. to the entire market of SSDs.
If the rumors are true, it is not difficult to explain why Samsung would decide on such a move. Any type of memory is currently in high demand due to the rapid construction and equipping of AI centers. Memory makers are therefore taking every opportunity to shift production to where they can make the most money, and as we’ve seen in the case of Micron, that means turning their backs on retail and individual customers.
