Volvo announces the new EX60 with a range of up to 810 km

Volvo has announced the launch of its new all-electric SUV model, the EX60. According to the first announcements by the manufacturer, this model will represent a milestone in the brand’s offering, offering a range of up to 810 kilometers with a single charge in a four-wheel drive configuration. Thus, the EX60 surpasses all previous electric models of this company, as well as many competitors on the market.

Chief Technology Officer of Volvo Cars, Anders Bellpoints out that the EX60 was designed to directly address the biggest concerns of customers when switching to electric drives, which, as we know, are range and charging speed. The new technology enables this model to charge enough energy for 340 kilometers of driving in just ten minutes on a 400 kW fast charger. In addition, all buyers of the upcoming EX60 will be entitled to a ten-year battery warranty.

Range like a gas station

The key to the announced performance lies in the SPA3 platform, the most advanced electric car architecture that Volvo has developed so far. Unlike previous models, the EX60 uses “cell-to-body” technology that integrates the battery directly into the structure of the vehicle. This approach, along with its own development of the electric motor, significantly reduces the weight of the vehicle and increases energy efficiency, enabling the electric SUV to have a range that rivals cars with gasoline engines.

The new 800-volt architecture and software developed in-house enable faster power flow with less heat generation. In collaboration with Breathe Battery Technologies, algorithms are integrated into the EX60 that continuously adjust the way the battery receives power. This ensures that it remains in the ideal operating zone regardless of weather conditions, thus optimizing its longevity and charging speed even in more extreme climates.

“The end of the era of compromise”

Additional efficiency was achieved by introducing the process “mega casting“, where hundreds of smaller parts are replaced by a single precision casting. This process not only reduces the overall weight of the vehicle, which directly affects the increase in range, but also optimizes the production process itself.

Thanks to fewer moving parts compared to conventional vehicles, the EX60 will also require less frequent service visits. Volvo says that this model marks the end of the era of compromise in electric vehicles, enabling long journeys with minimal stops at filling stations. For example, the routes Paris – Amsterdam, Los Angeles – San Francisco, or Stockholm – Oslo will be possible without stopping at filling stations.
