Valve has revealed the price and launch date of its living room PC, the so-called “Steam Machine”. It will cost more than consoles, and will have less space to install games.
Valve has finally revealed pricing for its console-mimicking PC box. The Steam Machine will be available in the following configurations and at these prices:
- Steam Machine 512 GB model without controller – 1039€
- Steam Machine 512 GB + Steam Controller – 1108€
- Steam Machine 2 TB model without controller – 1359€
- Steam Machine 2 TB + Steam Controller – 1428€
Sales of the device will start on Steam 6/25 from 7 p.m., with Steam Machine to be sold by reservation. Everyone who joins the waiting list will be randomly placed on the reservation list and will then be notified when they can purchase a Steam Machine.
Expected or unexpected prices?
So the Steam Machine is quite an expensive device when viewed in the context of the consoles it aims to compete with. Besides the base model costing more than any other console on the market, it also comes with only 512 GB of storage spacewhich means that in addition to the operating system and some Call of Duty, you barely have room for one or two more games.
Of course, the device comes out in a very ungrateful time of global memory shortage. The high purchase price of the components thus spilled over into the cost for the customers themselves, so some will say that with this price Steam Machine has a chance to be as successful as the Steam Machines initiative from 2015, which few remember.
