The creator of Gears of War admitted that the series was born out of his struggle with alcoholism


Game designer Cliff Bleszinski revealed that his previous career in gaming was accompanied by alcohol addiction.

American video game designer Cliff Bleszinski decided to share with the public details about his struggle with addiction, which has marked his career in gaming so far.

Bleszinski discovered how over a number of years has a problem with alcohol and admitted that his studio Boss Key Productions failed because he became a dysfunctional alcoholic.

Bleszinski says he developed an alcohol addiction in 2003 while working on Unreal Tournament, which continued at the height of his career when he created the Gears of War series. According to him, Gears of War was created during his hangover stages.

55-year-old Bleszinski had a seizure this year, which ended up in the hospital. After that, he decided to seek help in quitting alcohol and now says he has been sober for four months. Bleszinski is considering a return to making video games, but no longer plans to make multiplayer games after his last two projects of that type failed infamously.
