The National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia officially recently adopted an intervention law that brings significant benefits to highway users, both local and foreign, among whom there are certainly many Croats. According to the new provision, all annual electronic vignettes (e-vignettes) that were valid on December 1, 2025, are automatically extended by four months from their original expiration date. This measure applies to all vehicle price classes (1, 2A and 2B), regardless of the country of registration.

It is important to note that this decision covers only annual e-vignettes, while weekly, monthly and half-yearly vignettes are not subject to changes and their validity remains unchanged. Also, e-vignettes purchased after December 2, 2025 will continue to be valid for the standard 12 months, without additional extension.
The renewal process will be carried out completely automatically through the Dars system, which means that users do not need to take any additional steps. The key condition for obtaining this benefit is that the annual e-vignette has not expired before December 1, 2025. In practice, this means that, for example, the vignette that was supposed to expire on February 4, 2026, will now be valid until June 4, 2026.
Although the physical purchase receipts will still show the original expiry date (since it is legally an annual vignette with a one-time extension), the actual status will be visible in the system, where users can check the correct, up-to-date expiry date of their e-vignette.
This “intervention” move by the Slovenian authorities was explained as an additional discount, with which they want to react to situations in which, due to road works, more time is spent in queues. In reality, it is a pre-election move, that is, a kind of gift to the citizens ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections – which will most likely be held in March, so exactly during the extended period of validity of this year’s vignettes. The annual e-vignette for driving on Slovenian highways costs 117.5 euros and this will not change for the time being.
