Realme today announced the global debut of its own developed LumaColor IMAGE technology in the upcoming Realme 16 Pro series, as well as the establishment of the LumaColor IMAGE LAB laboratory in cooperation with TÜV Rheinland.
Great ambition in portrait photography
Realme has always encouraged young users to express themselves through creativity and the moments they share with others. To further strengthen this type of expression, Realme invests not only in powerful hardware, but also in industry-leading software optimization.
With the all-new LumaColor IMAGE technology, the Realme 16 Pro series delivers the best portrait experience in its segment — enabling more authentic and emotionally impactful portraits with natural skin tones, layered lighting and a rich photography atmosphere.
The development of LumaColor IMAGE technology confirms the ambition of the Realme brand in the field of portrait photography and reflects the company’s continued commitment to make advanced mobile photography capabilities available to young users around the world.
Setting new standards in portrait photography with TÜV Rheinland
In order to ensure a stable, accurate and reliable display of colors in the most common and realistic photography conditions, Realme and TÜV Rheinland jointly founded the LumaColor IMAGE LAB, a laboratory that reproduces everyday light scenarios — from the warm ambience of indoor cafes and dimly lit restaurants to dynamic spaces with saturated or mixed lighting.
Through extensive joint testing and calibration, the LumaColor IMAGE LAB advances the entire LumaColor image processing process and provides the scientific basis behind LumaColor’s pioneering approach to light and color processing.
Light in layers. Colors true to reality. Portraits that come alive.
The Realme 16 Pro series brings the new LumaColor IMAGE technology, which represents a significant step forward in portrait photography. Unlike traditional approaches that process light and color separately — often leading to overexposure or color distortion — LumaColor IMAGE intelligently harmonizes them, enabling natural and balanced skin tones, a harmonious relationship between subject and environment, and atmospheric lighting with accurate shadow rendering.
LumaColor IMAGE achieves the principle of “a thousand faces, a thousand shades” through multidimensional optimization of skin tones. The optical effect of depth of field with advanced bokeh blur further highlights the subject, while the reconstruction of light and shadows between the person and the environment brings richer texture and layered lighting to the photo.
That way, users can capture moments — from sunny outdoor scenes to gatherings under neon lights — with photos full of atmosphere, emotion and vivid detail.
