Analysts do not rule out the possibility that the PlayStation 6 could cost 1,000 euros or more

Now that the price of the PlayStation 5 Pro console has jumped to 900 euros, analysts say that it is not an impossible scenario for the PlayStation 6 to cost 999 euros or more.

Yesterday’s announcement of an increase in the price of PlayStation 5 consoles mostly did not worry the existing 80+ million owners of Sony’s current console too much. However, we could see the consequences of that price increase be felt by the next generation as well PlayStation, once we get it.

According to the reactions of market analysts, it is not impossible for the PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox to reach prices from 999.99 euros / dollarsand maybe even cross them.

Analyst Joost van Dreunen told Gamesradar:

“We are rapidly moving towards a world where thousand dollar consoles will be the norm and gaming on consoles will be become a luxury hobby.”

“I don’t think $999 is out of the question for at least one of the PlayStation 6 variants.” – says another analyst, Serkan Toto. A third forecaster, Matt Piscatella from Circana, agrees. “Are we going to see console prices over a thousand dollars? Maybe, it’s possible. Nobody wants that, but it could happen.”

Microsoft has already announced that the next Xbox will be a “premium” device, just a few months after they launched the portable ROG Xbox Ally X at a price of 900 euros.

Throughout their existence, consoles have traditionally been devices that manufacturers deliver with a very small margin, sometimes even at a loss. As these are closed systems where each sold content brings a commission to the console manufacturer, the practice is that the smaller profit from the sale of hardware is offset by the accumulated sales of software throughout the life cycle of the consoles.

However, in the current generation of consoles this has started to change due to external circumstances in the supply of components. So we ended up with the generation of the most expensive consoles in history, but also the anomaly that their prices are increasing over time instead of decreasing.
