Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2 fell short of Xbox’s expectations

Obsidian Entertainment launched as many as three games in 2025, but only one of them achieved the goal and made 30% of the net profit.

It’s really rare for a studio to release three games in the same year, as 2025 did Obsidian Entertainmentu. However, the team now sees it as a bad move.

First of all, the part of the team in charge of customer support was overloaded with work after launching so many games, and secondly – two out of three games failed to reach their set goals and cover development costs and make 30% profit.

Those two games were Avowed i The Outer Worlds 2and while Obsidian isn’t disclosing sales results, a Bloomberg report reveals they haven’t turned a profit yet. Obsidian management is still debating what they could have done differently with those games, but the bottom line is that they did the development process was too long. Both games were in development for almost six years.

Obsidian wants to reduce that process to three to four years in the future. One of their successes is the series Grounded, which achieved good sales, but they did not develop it for six years. In fact, Grounded has had two games in four years.
