BYD is the first in the world to guarantee full damage coverage for its autonomous driving

At the Intelligence Strategy Launch Event, the Chinese car manufacturer BYD presented a new business policy, the first of its kind in the world. Newly, the company will offer full coverage for traffic accidents caused by their autopilot navigation function in the city (Urban NOA system). This benefit applies to part of their “God’s Eye” driving assistance system in the Chinese market.

Double coverage

The move, which builds on already existing Smart Parking coverage, makes BYD the first automaker in the world to offer dual coverage for its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The one-year warranty applies to new customers and existing owners who upgrade their system to God’s Eye 5.0. Just as in the electrification phase, the Blade battery was BYD’s answer to user concerns about safety, the company applies the same basic principle of eliminating drivers’ worries in the phase of introducing smart driving.

According to the company’s official policy, if an accident occurs during the proper use of the Urban NOA function for which the user bears legal responsibility, BYD will directly cover all the resulting financial costs. As part of the “Intelligent Driving for All” strategy, the company also announced that the entire range of their vehicles will now offer the LiDAR version of the God’s Eye system as an option.

Pillars of trust

The company bases its confidence in assuming such a commitment on three key pillars. The first is a fleet of over 3.15 million vehicles equipped with smart systems, which is the largest fleet among Chinese manufacturers. The second pillar is the abundance of data of over 200 million kilometers recorded on a daily basis, which enables rapid algorithmic learning. The third pillar is a special research and development team of five thousand engineers.

The company’s vision of the future of smart driving is based on achieving a zero rate of traffic accidents, transforming the ADAS system into a “super driver” and using artificial intelligence as a personal assistant, in which they plan to invest more than 100 billion yuan.

The God’s Eye system will receive four major improvements, including the new XUANJI Architecture 2.0 satellite sensor architecture, an upgraded large-scale artificial intelligence model for managing physical systems, and a self-evolving data ecosystem.

The first domestic chip

At the same event, the first proprietary chip for smart vehicles was presented. XUANJI A3 is China’s first 4nm Driving SoC chip independently developed by BYD for cars. The chip supports third and fourth levels of autonomous driving, and a three-chip configuration can deliver more than 2,100 TOPS of computing power per vehicle. XUANJI A3 is already in mass production, and it is characterized by energy consumption that is 20% lower than that of comparable products, which, in combination with its own algorithms, doubles the utilization of the system’s computing capacity.
