Fast driving for “likes”: two drivers who bragged about the chase on social networks were fined

On April 7, police officers from the Slavonski Brod Traffic Police Station completed a criminal investigation of a 36-year-old man who drastically violated the Road Traffic Safety Act. It was established that on the night of April 4, in the settlement of Kujnik in the territory of the municipality of Oriovac, a man was driving a car with German registration plates at a speed of 163 km/h. On the mentioned section, the prescribed speed limit is 70 km/h, which means that the driver was traveling at a speed more than twice the permitted speed.

In addition to the dangerous driving itself, with which he endangered his own safety and the safety of other participants, the 36-year-old attracted the attention of investigators by posting a video of the violation on social networks. Due to the established irregularities, the police issued him a misdemeanor order in the amount of 1,320 euros, along with the imposition of a protective measure prohibiting the driving of category B motor vehicles for three months.

In parallel with this case, the investigation of the 18-year-old driver who drove 163 km/h on the section where the limit is 130 km/h on April 3rd on the A3 highway near Slavonski Brod was completed. The specificity of this case is that the passenger, who is also the parent of the young driver, recorded the violation and published the video material on social networks. An appropriate misdemeanor report was filed against the young driver in accordance with the law.

The police emphasize that, as part of their regular activities, they also monitor Internet posts more closely. They point out that they will identify and prosecute all persons who, through their behavior and digital posts, promote, incite or show the violation of traffic regulations. Such a strategy aims to combat the glorification of dangerous traffic behavior through popular online platforms.

A special appeal is addressed to parents, who directly shape the behavior of young drivers with their attitudes and reactions. Instead of approving or recording illegal actions, they are expected to encourage responsibility and conscientious participation in traffic, because they are the ones who first teach children responsibility behind the wheel.
