Google Street View cars on Croatian roads again this spring

The Google Street View service in Croatia was launched in 2012 and has been updated several times since then, the last time in 2025. This year’s photography, which begins on March 24, will cover around 30 settlements and more than 10,000 kilometers of roads. In addition to Zagreb, Google Street View cars will appear on the streets of Rijeka, Osijek, Sisak, Šibenik, Makarska, Pag, Valpov, Požega, Delnice, Vis, Varaždin, Trogir and other cities, Google announced.

Google Maps service has more than two billion monthly active users worldwide and contains information about more than 250 million businesses and locations. Thanks to the add-on within it, the Google Street View service, users can virtually visit and view the roads, but also various destinations in Croatia such as the Plitvice Lakes, the Arena in Pula, the Cathedral of St. Peter in Đakovo or Diocletian’s Palace in Split.

Updating information

Google says that it is important to update the information on the maps since the infrastructure is constantly changing – new settlements, road sections, industrial zones and public spaces are being built. By taking regular photos, these changes can be displayed on Google Maps, which makes it easier to find your way around, plan routes and familiarize yourself with the location in advance.

Google Street View cars are equipped with specialized 360-degree cameras that capture panoramic photos of the environment. Despite the detailed recording, Google points out that it attaches great importance to privacy protection. Before publishing the collected photos, technologies are used that automatically blur people’s faces and vehicle license plates to prevent identification and protect privacy.

In addition, the service offers the possibility of additional blurring of parts of the image (persons, cars, houses, etc.), which can be requested by clicking the “Report a problem” button in the lower right corner of published photos on the Google Maps service.
