Honor Magic 8 Pro Air is the first to get an AI zoom flash camera for night shots

The Honor Magic 8 Pro Air shows more and more clearly that, despite the “Air” designation, it is a phone with pronounced Pro ambitions, especially when it comes to the camera. The latest teaser reveals one of the key novelties: the AI zoom array flash camera, a technology that should bring drastically better quality zoom night shots.

Previous information already hinted that the Magic 8 Pro Air will have a 64 MP super telephoto camera, but now Honor has revealed what will make this sensor different from the competition. The company confirms that the Magic 8 Pro Air is the first Android phone to use AI zoom array flash technology, designed to improve low-light photography, especially at longer focal lengths.

Magic 8 Pro Air – AI zoom flash camera for superb night portraits

It is a combination of an advanced periscope lens and a system with multiple LED lights, supported by an AI algorithm and machine learning. The system uses five LED lamps, which together can provide central illumination of up to 200 lux, with precise focusing of light in relation to distance and frame. This enables clearer and more natural night shots, regardless of the lighting conditions or the distance of the subject.

Honor states that this structure of five LED lamps covers the entire range of portrait focal lengths and achieves the best maximum overall light output in the industry. In practice, this should eliminate the common problems of night portraits, such as dark frames, unnatural skin tones and pronounced noise and grainy effect in the details of the photo.

The new technology is further complemented by a special CCD strobe portrait mode, which uses a two-segment flash in combination with an added “film grain” effect. The goal is to avoid overexposure in backlit scenes, as well as blurred faces in low light, with a visual effect reminiscent of classic photography.

Honor says the Magic 8 Pro Air brings flagship camera quality with a large sensor for the main camera, a high-resolution ultra-thin periscope telephoto lens and the first AI zoom array flash on Android, thus “saying goodbye to dark, unnatural and poor night portraits”. It remains to be seen what other advanced functions this model will offer and how clearly it will stand out compared to other Air phones in the range, reports HC Newsroom.
